Description

recently this disease seem to bloom here on dA, and since I thought about that matter a lot in recent weeks, I guess its time to show my influences. I ridiculously reduced it down to only "Art-related" and I guess all of the above have an equal influence, there needs to be also a community list with many artists and friends here from dA that I owe some credits, butI guess the effect of such a meme is to learn focusing on just a few things....gna

To me, the most influential photographers are:

Storm Thorgerson
One of the best photographers and artists I have seen, his works show the world through one aliens-eyes - I also connect Pink Floyd with him, since he had done a lot covers

J.K.Potter
this man does use traditional darkroom right

Joel Peter Wittkin
this is the master of all things macabre

Jeanloup Sieff
Absolutely great photographer with sense for emotions, I could have added Jim Rakete as well

Horst P. Horst
This man is also a legend, my 3rd broken and fixed image was inspired by him

Most influential illustrators:

Dave McKean
He taught me the most on the use of colors and the mix of different media and how that is possible to mix digital with traditional

Gerald Brom
I think there has nothing to be said about this prolific illustrators influence into the current fiction genres

Dan Dos Santos
Everytime I come across a piece o art that makes me grab my oil-brush, its usually a piece from Dos Santos

Donato Giancola
I bet its seldom that someone shares a calmness through a painting, Donato doesand its amazing at what level of detail he is able to produce traditional works that blows of every digital painting

Jon Foster Was my first find, in a search about artists that also are approaching a middle-way between digital and traditional creation today he successfully proves that in the field of book cover illustration very well

Most influential sculptors

H.R.Giger
Most people think of the alien images, but I adore the architectural and sculpting approach of Giger far more than his paintings

Kris Kuksi
Is what I consider the purification of patience

Joachim Luettke
One of my main influences in the mix between sculpture and photography/manipulation, when I first bought his first artbook POSTHUMAN, I was and am still blown away on how realistic and lifelike the settings look

Mark Newman
A sculpture artist I watch here on dA and who never ceases to amaze with subtle ideas and a perfect execution

Most influential artists

Salvador Dalí
One of the first artbooks I bought was the one of Salvador Dalí and I was so impressed by the amount of works he had produced in his lifetime

Michael Parkes
Parkes combines the tasteful nude and fantasy with a graphical and surreal touch which always gives inspiration, when in doubt

Gustav Klimt
Early on I didn´t like his work very much, just after I found Mihael Parkes, I found references to Klimt and found in Klimt the natural "surprise" that is missing in Parkes work - I need these two together

Hieronimus Bosch
I don´t know what it is, but this artist is just utterly crazy and I like the ideas he had about good and evil

Hajime Sorayama
The master of absolute detail and realism in contrast to the other ainters, he is the definite opposite and this reflects quite good what I need in art

Gil Elvgren
Its not allone his work, he represents merely the classic Pin-up influence, while Sorayama reflects the modern pole to me

Most influential flicks

Constantine
From a visually demanding is this the least interesting one, besides Darko, but it definitly has something epic and a few "cult" images have been burnt into my brain that strive to find this mood or atmosphere in anything visual

Hellboy2
Its not that I don´t like the first part, but for visual stimulation the nr. 2 is epicness

Corpse bride
Its not that this movie has a big influence in my work, but it should reflect Tim Burton and my faible for stop-motion movies/art

Mirrormask
Besides that this is a must see for every McKean fan, its a visually stunning experience that burns also images into the brain

Donnie Darko
The second least visually stunning one, but the idea, story and the movie in general isdefinitly representive that not all things need to be understand in order to work, pretty much like life;-)

The Cell
This flick is so outstanding and the visuals are the best I´ve ever seen in a movie, equally strange, disturbing and beautiful at once

Most influential musicvideos

Tool - Parabola
Don´t know how much I´ve seen it, but I knew Alex Grey before I´ve seen this video for the first time, and it blew me away that his art was involved (plus point for the band)

Björk - All is full of love
I guess this video has the most impact on viewers that are interested in art, technically its a true masterpiece and a great reference aswell

Aphex Twin - Come to daddy
When I first saw this video, it made me shiver exactly where this screenshot was taken, the nearly30 seconds scream, its not definitly the visually aspects, but btw. all these musicvideos represent a genre of music that I like too
